The North American monsoon delivers half of annual precipitation to Tucson, Arizona, and is a major hydroclimatic feature of the southwestern United States and Mexico. Water resource managers are interested in potential changes in this system, especially as it appears that winter rain in the Southwest will likely decrease with global climate change. My research explores past changes in the North American monsoon in an effort to understand monsoon response to changes in radiative forcing. I use primarily cave speleothems to explore these changes.
